OUR NEW WALL HANGINGS
The designs for these banners at the front of church are symmetrical – to indicate the continuity of life; but life is portrayed in contrast to our experiences. The left design is based on the experience of darkness and isolation. There is a sense of being lost and without purpose. Life is dry and fruitless. There is no sign of life or fulfilment; all around us everything appears bleak and barren. The only hope is an emerging light.
The right design is based on a sense of hope and a guiding light in life. The olive tree is bursting into life with blossom, giving a sense of renewal and hope. Beyond is a pomegranate tree symbolising the hope of immortality and resurrection. Pomegranates also represent the Church, as there are many seeds in one fruit. At the base of the tree is clover, representing the Trinity. The whole scene is bright with the light of purpose and the meaning of faith.
